Hi, my name is Clint. As you might have guessed, this is a blog about barbecue. Specifically, this is where I scribble down my ideas about what constitutes good barbecue and how to make it. I’m not yet an expert pitmaster but, if you like, you can follow along on my journey as I hone my craft and share my experiences.
This all started last year in the late Summer of 2017. I was staring at a glossy photo of a smoked beef rib, admiring the ebony bark and thick rosy smoke ring. I could almost taste the beefy succulence. With my mouth watering, I thought, “I can do this…I can learn how to make this gorgeous specimen of meat.” Convinced I was in critical need of a smoker, I immediately began pestering my wife, Nicole, in hopes that she too would realize our future must contain copious amounts of barbecued meats for life to go on. Fortunately for me, Nicole eventually relented and even purchased our first smoker: a Yoder Loaded Wichita.
Since that time, I have been reading books on the subject, sampling local barbecue, and firing up the smoker whenever I get a break from my day job as a software engineer. I love to learn and share knowledge so I’ve decided to write about my barbecue exploits here in hopes that it will also be of some benefit to you.
If you reside in the Portland, Oregon area (my current hometown), or are thinking of visiting, you might start by checking out the Portland BBQ Tour, where I write my reviews of local barbecue joints. Otherwise, check in now and then for my musings on all things barbecue.
