Deception is everywhere. Or at least, deception makes a happy home in the Yelp reviews for Road Runner Barbeque. How else can one reconcile dry and flavorless chopped pork against Debbie B. who claims it to be a “smoky delight”? Perhaps Debbie came on a good day or maybe she wants to hoodwink us into suffering through this insipid dish for ourselves. Either way, “smoky” and “delight” are not words that accurately portray the chopped pork at Road Runner Barbeque.
Jack A., a self-proclaimed Oklahoma native and Art of BBQ competition judge, emphatically announces the chicken to be “INCREDIBLE!!!!” and goes further to insist that it “really takes the smoke”. The chicken is indeed delicious; it’s tender, juicy, and flavorful. However, with a soft-skinned rotisserie quality, it is clear this chicken has never seen a wisp of smoke — a notion I personally confirmed with the owner. So, either Jack possesses questionable barbecue judging ability or he is padding his review with fabricated details. Deception.
Suffering through a barkless brisket, strangely reminiscent of ham in taste and texture, and anemic ribs that were likely boiled is enough to leave a patron dumbfounded. After all, Shellie P. promises “Everything here is amazing”; she must not have had the ribs.
